Reading a map can be confusing these days with so many symbols all meaning the same thing so here are a few tips to help you out.
NORTH is typically always marked in the upper left corner. This will help you orient yourself as to how the map relates to the world.
The SCALE found next to the legend will indicate distances according to measurement. For instance 1 inch could equal 1 mile.
TRAILS are represented often as a series of dotted lines.
